MATTA and Industry Partners Reaching Out to Underprivileged Children

Kuala Lumpur, 16 December 2019 – The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) in partnership with Global Peace Foundation, Aquawalk Sdn Bhd and Malaysia Airlines brought joy to 90 children at Petrosains, The Discovery Centre and Aquaria KLCC today through a joint Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

The children are residents of the Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) Raya Permai, Kota Damansara and Kampung Orang Asli Hulu Cemperuh, Bentong, Pahang spent an exciting day experiencing science through hands-on interactive exhibits as well as discovering the wonderful underwater world of marine life from Malaysia and around the world.

MATTA President Datuk Tan Kok Liang said, “This programme complements our objective of providing opportunity for the children to discover, explore and expand their knowledge in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and marine life. Along the way some of them may even be inspired to develop a career in tourism”.

“Besides contributing to tourism industry, we recognise the need to play an important role in serving the community through early-age education. We hope this effort will inspire these children to strive for a brighter future”, he added.

Dr. Teh Su Thye, Chief Executive Officer, Global Peace Foundation Malaysia said, “These children are part of our play-based learning program which aims to cultivate healthy social-emotional development in a safe and healthy environment. This trip to Petrosains and Aquaria KLCC is truly eye-opening for them, sparking a deep sense of curiosity to further discover the world around them. We believe in providing equal opportunity for every child so that they can achieve their full potential”.

In the past year, Global Peace Foundation have been implementing play-based education programmes with children and youth from Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) as well as indigenous communities in Pahang and Sarawak.

Ms. Lau Yin May, Group Chief of Marketing and Customer Experience Officer, Malaysia Airlines Berhad said, “We are pleased to be part of this programme and we commend MATTA for providing this opportunity for the children to explore learning beyond the classroom. We believe this exercise will not only encourage the children’s interest in science but also open their minds to creative and exploratory thinking.”

This CSR programme also received support from Petronas and Petrosains, The Discovery Centre as they were giving out free passes to the children.
