Work closely with tourism leaders, NIOSH urged

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) should engage directly with the leaders of the tourism industry in its desire to make, safety training a priority.

As a national institute, the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) pointed out that NIOSH should not limit itself to making arms-length press statements.

"NIOSH to achieve the desired objective of their advocacy should take proactive and practical steps to engage various industries', its President Datuk Tan Kok Liang.

Tan was reaching to a recent press statement issued by NIOSH Chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye urging all employers in the tourism industry to provide security training and prepare a comprehensive emergency plan to safeguard their staff, tourists and members of the public in the event of accidents at their premises.
