MATTA Perak Chapter FAM Trip to Kellie’s Castle and Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge No. 5

On 10 January 2018, MATTA Perak Chapter together with its members held a  FAM Trip to Kellie’s Castle and Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge No. 5 located in Batu Gajah, Perak.

Keliie's Caste is a unfinished castle build by a Scottish planter named William Kellie Smith. The brainchild of the Scottish rubber plantation owner to celebrate his child’s birth, the castle and surrounding ruins bear signs of Smith’s grand vision for his family home while Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge No. 5  is a former tin mining dredge and living proof that this area was once part of a major mining operation taking place within the Kinta Valley. The dredge was built in England, the United Kingdom in 1938 by F.W. Payne & Son. He was a major design engineering company in bucketline dredges.

The FAM Trip with more than 40 members had the opportunity to discover the history and tourism highlights of both destinations. The FAM Trip journey ended at 4.30pm.

A Familiarisation Trip (FAM) is one of MATTA initiatives organised for Members to create more business opportunities, including building Members engagement for better working environment.
