MATTA Throws in Full Support for Visit Keningau Year 2018

KENINGAU, 2 May 2017: Members of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) are launching new tour packages to Keningau, Sabah in an effort to promote the district as a new must-visit tourism destination.

Themed packages, many of which span 3 days, will give tourists ample time to explore the rich cultural and natural beauty of Keningau which is about 3 hours away from Kota Kinabalu by road. These packages will also give tourists an opportunity to explore other areas of interest such as Tambunan and Tenom which are enroute to Keningau.

Highlights of the Keningau district include attractions such as the Crocker Range Park, the Oath Stone, Evergreen Livestock Farm, Pagalan River Rafting, Handicraft Centre, Guang Ji Temple, and the Tamu Keningau (Keningau Market).

“These new packages will not only help to promote the district but will also give the local economy a boost and bring long-term benefits to the local inhabitants”, said Datuk Hamzah Rahmat, President of MATTA.

MATTA Sabah Chapter will also be engaging with the local authorities and industry players to further develop tourism in Keningau to its fullest potential.

“MATTA has long been a strong inbound tourism player. Nearly all of MATTA’s 3,200 Members hold Inbound Licenses from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture”, said Datuk Tan Kok Liang, Vice President Inbound and Domestic of MATTA.

“Furthermore, MATTA has been very proactive internationally in building strong relational ties with our overseas counterparts to promote Malaysia as an attractive tourism destination. We are now seeing the fruits of our labour as more and more markets are opening up to us. This is especially so for China and India”, he further added.

The success of MATTA’s efforts can also be seen domestically. The recent MATTA Fair in March 2017 generated more than RM16 million in
domestic sales alone and is expected to increase in the coming September 2017 MATTA Fair in Kuala Lumpur.
